Aedes mosquitoes are a frequent nuisance in San Diego. These aggressive biters primarily feed on humans and can spread diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Aedes mosquitoes lay eggs in areas prone to collecting water, and their eggs are durable, surviving dry conditions until they can hatch.
Two significant species in the area are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Aedes aegypti, often referred to as the yellow fever mosquito, breeds in small water containers and thrives in urban settings. Aedes albopictus, the Asian tiger mosquito, has a black body with white stripes. Both species are most active during the day, particularly at dawn and dusk.
Anopheles mosquitoes are a major focus for mosquito control in San Diego. These mosquitoes lay eggs on water surfaces, often in areas with dense vegetation or algae. Their boat-shaped eggs have lateral floats to stay on the water’s surface. Anopheles larvae lie flat on the water without a siphon, and adult mosquitoes rest with their bodies aligned straight. These mosquitoes are the only species known to spread malaria.
San Diego is home to five species of Anopheles mosquitoes, typically found in vegetated pools, algae-covered zones, and agricultural areas. Known for biting at dawn, dusk, and nighttime, mosquito control is crucial to reducing their population and preventing the risk of malaria transmission.
Culiseta mosquitoes are often found in San Diego. These mosquitoes lay their eggs on water surfaces, where the eggs cluster together in rafts. The larvae hang downward from the surface at a slight angle. As adults, they are recognized by their rounded abdomens, and some species are known for delivering painful bites.
Although generally less aggressive than other mosquitoes, Culiseta mosquitoes can still be a problem in San Diego. Our mosquito control treatments target these pests, helping reduce their population and providing you with a safer, more pleasant environment.
In San Diego, Culex mosquitoes are well-known for transmitting diseases such as West Nile virus, St. Louis encephalitis, and Western equine encephalitis. These mosquitoes are most active during dawn, dusk, and after dark. They lay their eggs on stagnant water, forming a raft-like structure. You can usually find them around ponds, standing water, and agricultural areas.
Culex mosquitoes have light brown bodies with a pale band around their proboscis and prefer to bite during the night. Effective control includes eliminating standing water and applying treatments to reduce the mosquito population.
Our mosquito treatment begins with a thorough inspection of your yard to locate breeding areas, such as standing water and dense vegetation. To improve effectiveness, we suggest you clean your yard and remove any standing water before our visit.
Typically, the treatment lasts about 30 minutes, depending on your yard size. We use a combination of fogging and the In2Care system, which is safe for children and pets. The In2Care system continues working after treatment, stopping mosquitoes from breeding.
Our mosquito control service offers ongoing protection to ensure your yard stays mosquito-free. Each monthly visit takes about 30 minutes, depending on your yard’s size. We recommend clearing any standing water before we arrive. Our treatments are safe for kids and pets, so your family can enjoy the outdoors without concern.
We rely on the In2Care system to target mosquito breeding sites for long-term control. Monthly fogging builds a protective barrier that prevents mosquitoes from nearby areas from entering your yard. Our experts will also help you identify potential mosquito-attracting spots and offer simple preventative solutions. Even after rain, our treatments remain effective, keeping mosquitoes at bay.
