Cimex lectularius, commonly referred to as the bed bug, is a tiny, reddish-brown insect that feeds on human blood. These pests are about the size of an apple seed and are typically found in mattress seams, box springs, and furniture cracks. Bed bugs are primarily active at night and can hide in small spaces such as fabric folds, electrical outlets, and behind picture frames.
Bed bugs undergo five nymphal stages before reaching adulthood, needing a blood meal to move from one stage to the next. Female bed bugs lay approximately five eggs daily in hidden locations. They can live for several months without feeding. While bed bugs don’t transmit diseases, their bites can cause itching and allergic reactions.
The bed bug species Cimex hemipterus is found mostly in tropical and subtropical climates. Similar to the more common Cimex lectularius, these bugs feed on human and animal blood. They are small, reddish-brown insects that grow up to 4-5 mm in length, with an oval and flattened body that makes them good at hiding in small spaces.
These bed bugs are mainly active at night but can also bite during the day in hot or dry conditions. They prefer to live near water sources to keep their larvae hydrated. If you suspect an infestation, check areas around your bed or other resting places. Look for signs such as small blood spots on sheets, brown fecal smears, and shed skins.
Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs can become a serious issue if they infest your home. They primarily feed on humans, usually at night, but may come out during the day if conditions are too hot or dry. These pests often stay near water to provide their larvae with drinking water, even though they are not aquatic.
Adult Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed, with a flat, oval body. They are reddish-brown and darken after a meal. They have long antennae and eyes that look like raspberries. With three pairs of legs, their bodies can expand significantly when feeding. If you think you have a bed bug problem, it’s important to act fast. San Diego Pest Control can help you eliminate these pests and prevent further infestations.
Bed bug eggs are minuscule, around 1mm in size, making them difficult to see. Their pearl-white color blends with light-colored surfaces, making detection challenging. If the eggs are more than five days old, a small eye spot may be visible.
Bed bugs lay their eggs in concealed, protected spots near their food sources. Typical areas include mattress seams, crevices in box springs, and under baseboards. Female bed bugs can lay up to five eggs each day, with hatching occurring in 4-12 days. If not properly treated, these eggs can cause new infestations.
Bed bug nymphs, the young stage of bed bugs, must pass through five developmental stages before maturing into adults. They are smaller and lighter in color than adult bed bugs, making them more difficult to notice. A blood meal is needed for each stage to molt to the next, taking about 5-10 minutes to feed.
Nymphs can be found near sleeping or resting areas, often hiding in mattress seams, bed frames, and small gaps. Evidence of nymphs includes tiny, pale bugs and minor blood spots on sheets. Effective treatment focuses on these hiding spots to ensure complete nymph removal.
Adult bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects, roughly the size of an apple seed. Their bodies are flat and oval, expanding after feeding. They feed on human blood and are typically active at night, biting sleeping people.
You’ll find bed bugs near sleeping areas, such as mattress seams, bed frames, and nearby furniture. They can also hide behind electrical outlets and picture frames. Look for small red blood stains, brown fecal streaks, and shed skins as signs of an infestation. Regular inspections can help catch and handle bed bug infestations early.
San Diego Pest Control starts the bed bug elimination process with a comprehensive inspection conducted by our certified inspectors. They pinpoint bed bugs using photos or symptoms and provide a preparation sheet with necessary instructions. Customers must prepare by removing items from walls, vacuuming infested areas, and laundering bedding and clothing. Our technicians treat the entire room, targeting furniture legs, moldings, cracks, crevices, bed frames, headboards, box springs, and mattresses. The black covering under the box spring needs to be removed for optimal treatment. Treated rooms should remain empty for at least three hours.
We recommend 3-4 treatment sessions based on the infestation’s severity. Costs are assessed after the inspection. Our bed bug treatments are pet-friendly, though we suggest leaving the home for 3-4 hours during and after treatment. We offer a 30-day warranty for whole-home treatments. Adhering to our guidelines and maintaining cleanliness helps prevent future infestations. Our precise and effective strategies ensure complete bed bug removal, giving our clients peace of mind.
Two weeks following our initial bed bug service, we offer a complimentary follow-up treatment. This involves applying an insect growth regulator to break the bed bugs’ life cycle, ensuring any remaining eggs or nymphs are treated to prevent them from becoming adults.
Our technicians will revisit and inspect the treated areas to check for any signs of bed bug activity. This additional check provides extra security and peace of mind. With our follow-up service, you can be confident that we are dedicated to thoroughly eliminating bed bugs from your home.
Serving San Diego and its neighboring areas, we’re dedicated to keeping your spaces free from pests. Our team is passionate about these communities and strives to provide top-notch service and lasting results.
